Our junior book club was thrilled with the modern and humorous tone of the book, That Bird has Arms. For their creative response, the girls were eager to explore the theme of ’embracing individuality.’ Inspired by the book’s frequent use of bird tweets, they decided to create an identity based tweeting activity. All year 5 students were introduced to the book and given slips of paper featuring Twitter handles, messages, and hashtags. They were encouraged to tweet their own points of uniqueness. The book club girls particularly enjoyed creating a mega-phone and display board to showcase their creations.
