Our group had a picnic afternoon tea in the garden while we read ‘The Concrete Garden’ and talked about how the author Bob Graham felt the message was of ‘hope’. We loved the details of the children’s chalk drawings in the book and our whole family joined in drawing our own pictures on the driveway.

Our group enjoyed the movement and rhyming words in ‘Gymnastica Fantastica’ and it made us want to join in and do gymnastics too. We made our own gymnastic rhythm sticks and had fun developing routines to music.

Our little group of 4 year olds and a six year old read the book and spoke about encouraging and supporting friends to join you in activities you find fun. One example was going to a climbing wall with a cousin who had never done that before and how it was fun to help him

Our little group loved enacting this story during the re telling. We took turns using a soft duck and our paper puppets to do the actions and we all joined in with singing the words and making the animal noises. It was great fun.
