Mum: It looks great Jimmy, but please can you have breakfast before you go to school and show your teacher!

Jimmy: Ok… Can I have jam toast please! Please… Please…

Mum: Here you go. Make sure to move your project before you eat!

Jimmy: (dropping his toast) Oh no! I dropped my jam toast on Ned Kelly! What should I do?! Noooo! It has left a red mark on it!

Mum: Please calm down Jimmy, you can’t make a new one now, but I’m sure that everyone will understand… However, darling, would it be possible for you pass me some of those painkillers?

Jimmy: These? The one with the red box with white stripes?

Mum: Yes, those! Thanks Jim.

Jimmy: See you later Mum!

Mum: Later Jimmy! Don’t forget to show Ms Smith your project!

Roles for scene 2:

Ms Anna: Abi

Jimmy: Indiana

Shopkeeper and Narrator: Alice – could be both?

Jimmy: Oh, how I wish I could get both the dress for Mum AND this marvellous cassette player!

Shopkeeper: Hello, would you like to buy anything?

Ms Anna: Hello, yes, I would like to buy some cheap clothing! Is there anything you would recommend?

Shopkeeper : (to the camera/audience) Wait… do they… um… know each other…?

Ms Anna: Thank you for the goods. Jimmy, is that you? Why don’t we have a talk. I would love to chat. It’s totally up to you. I can get you jam donuts?

Jimmy: Um… Sure, I’d love that.

Shopkeeper: (to camera/audience) They must know each other! They went outside to go and  sit down on the bench and are eating jam donuts.

Jimmy: Ms Smith, I challenge you to eat your donut without licking your lips. Let’s see who can get the most sugar and last the longest without licking their lips!

Ms Anna: So, tell me, Jimmy, why did you drop out of school? Is everything okay at home? Is there anything that I can help you with?

Jimmy: Well… Ahh… Um… Let me start at the beginning. I was with my mum working at the grocery store in the holidays, just to help out at home, and … she got really sad and seemed sick and wouldn’t get out of bed, so I had to drop out of school to take her job and buy the food
