Westminster tap into Creative Janeen Brian’s knowledge

My group are thoroughly enjoying their reading and are having sometimes quite ‘heated’ discussions just like they feel the real judges would.

This week they enjoyed a visit from Janeen Brian which was fabulous. Photos are attached, one with Janeen and the group and another including me also. It was wonderful to link what Janeen was telling them about how she creates the plot and characters etc in her books to what I have been leading them with about the two books they have read.

During our usual weekly meeting, the group answered questions about the group.

What grade/s are you in?    Year 5 and 6

What state is your group located in?    South Australia

What’s one awesome thing about where you live and/or go to school?   Where we live is awesome because of the beaches and the roads are quiet. Our school is amazing because of our librarian (I didn’t pay them to say this!😊), sporting opportunities such as soccer, rugby and netball with amazing coaches, and our music department is awesome too.

What is your group facilitator’s name?  Mrs Baldwin

What is your favourite snack food to eat at Shadow Judging meetings?   Our meetings are at lunchtime so whatever each of us is having for lunch.

What books do you like to read when you’re not Shadow Judging?   Fantasy, Realistic, I don’t care anything, Fantasy, The School of Good and Evil, Fantasy.

What’s one thing you think Australian authors and illustrators need to know about Australian readers like you?  not all books should have a happily ever after ending, we like books that get us, as readers, to think deeper, sometimes the illustration style does not seem to match the book, more layers and hidden things that blossom, books for all genders, a good red herring, fantasy books set in Australia.
