With help from our librarian Ms Eyre, a group of students from year 10 and 11 read the six shortlisted books from the older readers genre and collectively decided which book they believed was the best. After collectively reading all six books, the team was given the challenge to argue which book they believed should be the next CBCA Book of the Year in the older readers category. Our Pittwater House Sun Project decided that the two finalists would be The Boy From The Mish and Sugar Town Queens, with Sugar Town Queens winning 4-3 votes. After many discussions, arguments and consultations with the rubric, our TPHS team decided that Sugar Town Queens was the novel which met the needs of the rubric and interests of our readers the most.

This initiative provided an enjoyable learning opportunity and reading challenge for us as students, it allowed us to critically analyse acclaimed literature. Each book varied in theme, genre, characters and plot line making each book unique and interesting.
