Scar Town is a shocking book and is a thrilling read from the very beginning. It is a book that flies with the tension soaring behind it! The book itself is action and adventure as well as thriller and obviously horror! As crazy as it sounds, it is heavily focused on mystery and would be a great read for those aged around 10-13 years old.
Scar Town is a book that is set in a rather tenebrous and eerie town with secrets that reach the depths of a nearby lake. The trio of Jay, Dar and Will come to see an underwater house that has been uncovered during the drought. It was abandoned and has been deluged for several years, unnoticed until now. They swim to the house through the depths of crying despair and find themselves amid the darkness, alone? Coming face to face with money, they search until they find the remains of a human.
Left with the cold scraping down their spines, they take the money back. Thinking it may not be much, little do the trio know that the money belongs to someone, and they would want it back.
This book as mentioned is aimed towards young children despite the plots and twist. The language used is a bit serious yet light-hearted at some times. However, it is the characters that make a difference. Will is someone who does something with reason while Jay would take a dive down the deep end. Then there is Dar who is willing to stay back and suffer under his own shadow of grief. Ironically, Dar and Jay are twins which gives the story great contrast amongst the characters with Will who is ready to put them back on their feet.
The plot is like a swirling tornado that is adamant to stop. It only keeps on building up and ends in one great storm! Then there are the emotions which go from a more serene environment to a heart racing run and ending with a mind-blowing end. The family is forced to hold their burden of secrets which are then revealed as tension rises and such lives are suddenly at risk. Overall, it is an action-packed and exciting read. The story of uncovering the truth and shedding light surely scars the town.
