We worked with fabulous local illustrator Lucia Masciullio who inspired  us to experiment with different materials to create a response to one of the titles.

Charlotte  -. I loved being involved in the team group and having an excuse to stay up late reading!

Mayah – Shadow judging was an enjoyable, easy commitment to participate in.

Tiarna  – I loved being a part of the Shadow Judging team this year. The meetings were enjoyable as I got to spend time talking about the things I love, books! Reading the books was fun as I read about all the different ways authors write their books. The illustrator experience was so much fun!! I not only learnt many new ways to illustrate but also discovered many ways how to display my ideas about the literature. One thing I would say to someone joining shadow judging would be that it is an exciting experience where you get to make opinions and responses to books for readers of our age.

Hanna  – It was really fun! Illustrator Lucia Masciullo visited our school and we spent a half day with her! We learnt so much about art and drawing, and I hope to do it again! But, obviously, reading the books was the best part. While some weren’t my favourite, I got some new favourite books! Shadow judging was fun, and I wish to do it next year.

Ananya – I really enjoyed our meetings and when the illustrator came in and gave us advice and tips. I would say it was the most exciting thing in the terms if you like books. My favourite would be the artworks, the illustrator and experiencing all the books

Anna  – I really enjoyed participating in Shadow Judging this year. I had a lot of fun reading the books and coming to the meetings to discuss them. I also loved taking part in the illustrator experience and I thought that it was a very interesting and valuable experience.

Ella  – I i would recommend shadow judging to someone that is a good reader and loves things like that.

Chelsey – I liked pointing out the different things about each book. Also I liked the illustrator experience where I got to hear how they became an illustrator, what techniques they used to illustrate their book, and what the process of books were like. For someone who will join next year, I recommend to try to put yourself in a child’s perspective first and then your own so that you can see why the author has put that in the book.

Abi  – Shadow judging was fun and a great opportunity, reading the books gave me something to do and helped me open my eyes to different genres. The illustrator was an amazing experience and I learnt tips that I will use forever. I would recommend everyone to do shadow judging.

Ila  – The entire experience was fun and creative, and I hope to do it again next year.
